Southwest Florida Active Adult Communities
Southwest Florida figures prominently in a recent study of best places to retire. WalletHub, an online enterprise that typically reviews consumer financial products and services has been producing a list of Best and Worst Places to Retire since 2014. This is the first year the company focused exclusively on Florida, but to be sure, our region ranked significantly in their findings. For anyone considering a move to homes within Southwest Florida active adult communities, particularly among Naples, Bonita Springs, Estero or Fort Myers, the WalletHub study helps reaffirm some of the advantages. In ranking 111 of Florida’s largest cities, based on “retirement friendliness,” researchers examined aspects involving quality-of-life, healthcare, recreational activities, affordability, crime rates and more. Results of scoring ultimately revealed that Bonita Springs, Cape Coral, Estero and Fort Myers all ranked in the study (as well as communities such as Port Charlotte and Lehigh Acres).
Cities with lower populations were left off the list compiled by WalletHub. Therefore, communities like Naples and Marco Island didn’t figure in the study. But for the record, Forbes has ranked Naples among the nation’s Top 15 of best places to retire. Another online financial services advisory service, SmartAsset, has also ranked Naples among America’s best communities for retirees. Their study included focus on such factors as tax burden for retirees.
All of these studies help reaffirm findings produced in numerous other studies over recent years – Southwest Florida remains a great place to live for retirees. Of course, just because folks are retired, it doesn’t necessarily mean they spend their days retiring, especially if you consider so many of those living among Southwest Florida active adult communities. These 55 and older neighborhoods have residents enjoying golf, tennis, pickle ball, swimming and an amazing range of other activities.
Our region’s favorability among retirees is, no doubt, helping drive development of many new Southwest Florida active adult communities. Meanwhile, the new developments are also helping to drive down prices of re-sales among existing communities.
